JGFA SUMMER TRAVEL BALL INFORMATION
The JGFA Teams participate in the Big West Fastpitch League which is a part of Minnesota Softball. See below for important info and dates for the upcoming season. We will update this page as information comes in from the league.
Traveling Softball is intended to be a competitive experience with the opportunity to have fun and learn softball fundamentals. If you are looking for something less competitive with reduced commitment levels, you should consider In-House/Rec Softball.
JGFA 2024 SUMMER SEASON FEES
Registration fees for the 2024 season are as follows:
8U - $225
10U/12U - $400
14U/16U - $450
Families with multiple children in the program must pay full price for first player (can't be the lowest rate of registration). All other players will receive discounts of 10% off additional players in the association.
Volunteer Hours deposit checks for the 2024 season will be $400, these checks will be destroyed upon completion of your family's volunteer hours requirements for the season.
KEY FEATURES FOR 2024 SUMMER SEASON

Pitching
- Interest in private lessons has to be run through the association. Association will not retrospectively pay for lessons from coaches that have not been vetted by the association

Hitting and Catching Lessons
- We will be continue offering private hitting and catching lessons available to the association. The board is still determining if we will subsidize these or offer them to players

Winter Clinics
- We have added more winter optional opportunities for players interested in working in the offseason. Keep you eye out through board communications.
AGE LEVEL INFORMATION
Age level eligibility is based on the age of player as of January 1st of the current year. Each age level has a slight difference in commitment requirements and goals for forming competitive teams. Please see each tab below for more information about each level.
8U INFORMATION
For 8U the primary focus is on fundamentals, development, and creating a fun environment to grow the girl's interest in fastpitch softball.
There are typically no tryouts for the 8U age level unless there is a large number of players and we need to split teams evenly.
NIGHTS OF THE WEEK
For 8U the primary focus is on fundamentals, development, and creating a fun environment to grow the girl's interest in fastpitch softball.

TOURNAMENTS
Each team may play in 1-2 tournaments around the metro. 8U tournaments are typically one-day tournaments. Tournaments at the 8U level are limited and will be at the coach's discretion based on location and player availability.
All 8U teams automatically qualify for the state tournament.
Total of 2-3 tournaments during the 8U season.
10U INFORMATION
For 10U, the primary focus is on fundamentals and development of all players while fielding competitive teams.
Teams will be formed based on tryout evaluations.
NIGHTS OF THE WEEK
10U plays mostly on Tuesday nights and some Thursdays as needed.
Teams will practice 2 nights a week depending on field and team availability.
League games start in May and all games are double headers.
TOURNAMENTS
Each team typically plays in 3 two day tournaments each season.
10U also has a State Qualifier and State Tournament (if the team qualifies. There is also the possibility of qualifying for national tournaments which are held at the end of July and/or early August.
Total of 4-6 tournaments.
12U INFORMATION
At the 12U level, the primary focus is on fundamentals and development with an elevated focus winning at the B/C levels.
Teams will be formed based on tryout evaluations.
NIGHTS OF THE WEEK
10U plays mostly on Tuesday nights and some Thursdays as needed.
Teams will practice 2 nights a week depending on field and team availability.
League games start in May and all games are double headers.
TOURNAMENTS
Each team typically plays in 3 two day tournaments each season.
10U also has a State Qualifier and State Tournament (if the team qualifies. There is also the possibility of qualifying for national tournaments which are held at the end of July and/or early August.
Total of 4-6 tournaments.
14U INFORMATION
At the 14U level we will continue to focus on development with a focus on competition.
Teams are formed based on tryout evaluations. Which level the team(s) compete at will depend on tryout evaluations and number of players.
NIGHTS OF THE WEEK
14U plays on both Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Practices are typically held twice a week during non-game weeknights. Weekend practices may occur as needed at the coaches discretion.
League games start in may and all games are double headers.
TOURNAMENTS
Each team will compete in 3 tournaments. Some tournaments may be out of state.
14U also has a State Qualifier and the State Tournament (if the team qualifies). There is also the possibility of qualifying for nationals which are held at the end of July and/or early August.
Total of 4-6 Tournaments.
16U / 18U INFORMATION
At the 16/18U level we will continue to focus on development with an increased focus on competition.
Teams are formed based on tryout evaluations. Which level the team(s) compete at will depend on tryout evaluations and number of players.
NIGHTS OF THE WEEK
16/18U plays on Monday and Wednesday nights.
Practices will be held twice a week on non-game nights.
TOURNAMENTS
Each team will compete in 3 tournaments. Some tournaments may be out of state.
16/18U has a State Qualifier and the State Tournament (if the team qualifies). There is also the possibility of qualifying for nationals which are held at the end of July and/or early August.
Total of 4-6 Tournaments.
